MAIL FROM STEFFI AND BRIAN:

Hi guys,

now its time to give you a short describtion of our trip trough india. All visitings from our family members are done and now I have time to prepare everything for our move to a bigger flat and brian is working on his final exam.

On May 5th we left Kolkata. Our first stop was Konark in Orissa. We decided not to stay in Puri because we wanted to relax from the crowdy Kolkata.
Konark was very nice. 10 days we stayed there, enjoyed the nice sea/beach, the sun temple and learned about the indian culture. We made friendship with a family there and were invited for dinner and a puja.
After that we had to go to Bubaneshwa to catch the train to Vijayavada (Andhra Pradesh)Bubaneshwa was a little bit similar to Kolkata, so we didn't like that place;-)
In Vijayavada we just stayed two days, that was enough and we still had the next train ticket to Chennai. In Chennai we met Asia and her friend from poland Magda. That made us very happy. Chennai was very disappointing. We really expected more from the world known city. The beach was extremly overfilled and the city itself is very forward. Two days are enough and we wanted to see more.

Magda didn't felt good so they came after the next day. We stayed in Mamallapuram, 2 hours from Chennai. It was very nice but strange because this are was affected by the tsunami. We enjoyed this very touristical place and had some common meals;-)
After we met Asia and Magda we went together by a horrible bus trip to Thanjavur. We had to change the bus several times to get there.
We arrived at 9:00 pm and didn't had anything to eat before. So we found one possible restaurant but the food was bad. The hotel room was the worste one we ever had. A window with the neighbour wall 2 cm in front, no shower and cockroaches.
The next day we visited the temple area which was very amazing. And after that we took a bus to madurai. There we stayed directly in front of the fabulous sri-meenakshi-temple in a nice hotel. That city was very interesting and the area around was so indian like.
That place we said good bye to asia and magda and one day later we went to Kuttalam in the mountains. There we saw thousands of indians whotook a shower under a waterfall. Not so impressive as we thought so the day after we took a bus to the southest point of india, Kanyakumari. Our hotel had the nicest view, over the place were the three seas go together. It was brilliant. But after the first day we heared the sounds our guide book warned us before. This holy music all over the place and the sharpe sound made us stay there for only two days.
Then we decided to go to Varkala. We left Tamil Nadu and are in Kerala. We thougt that place is nice and there will be less tourists. That was correct. So all sellers tried to take us in the shops and massage centers. It was not spectacular but we had the chance to go swimming, especially me, Steffi, felt good to see some tourists with for me normal swimming clothes;-)
But we didn't want to stay long so we took the train to Kottayam. After more than one hour without finding a hotel that had free rooms we decided to go to Periyar National Park. In the Cardamon mountains it was so nice., The klimate the people everything. We stayed there one week. MAde a trekking in the park and saw spiceplantages.
From there we went to Kochi, stayed two days, one was a strike day because of the high prices for petrol. But the city was very different and modern but nice.
From there we had a loooong trip by train to Gorkan, Karnataka. 4:00 am we arrived. The first time we had to be in the rain, monsun. It was raining very strong the train needed a long time to go because we had to cross the rails to get to the waiting hall. A Car Rikshaw brought us to the bus stand. It was Power cut. 5:00 am and very srange. At six we got the bus and sranded in strong rain at a nice hotel with tv:-)
It was very jungle like and the beaches some minutes away are wonderful. There was a wedding in the village and the best thing was that they celebrated 3 days and played loud and sharp music from 4:00 am untill midnight. We nearly got crazy and so we had to leave that nice place and decided to go to goa, benaulim. There we found that place we hoped to find. A small cottage for 100 Rs directly on the beach. The first day the weather was ok. Swimming was impossible because of the big waves. And the days after it was raining, raining raining. Only two restaurants and a long way to go there for us every day. especialy because of the rain it was hard to got out sometimes. It was to wet and our clothes started to smelly. So we thought about to have strong walls around us and a dry place. We went to Anjuna more in the north of goa. Our room was big enough and the landlady very nice. Absolutly touristical and strange. Strange people and modern indians. We got to know a family that m! oved from Jaipur to anjuna.
Tho we knew about the rain and that it will rain a lot but if it happens you become dissapointed. We could do only small things and we knew that it will be everywhere like that on our way to mumbai. So we had to stay there three weeks and at the end we looked for the day to go home.

All in all we got so different impressions from india and we really want to go to see the northern part of that amazing country.
But we wont stay so long because it was very hard with that humidity and the hot sun and our clothes reaches the maximum. We left nearly all of them all over the places we stayed.

So, now you reached the end and it was a looooong mail, i know. I hope you liked that short story of the Indian Trip of Brian and Steffi.

Asia, we really hope to hear from you soon and all of the others too.

Take care
Steffi (and Brian from the backside) ;-)

THEN MY MAIL TO STEFFI&BRIAN AND MAU&VAL:

Hej Brian&Steffi + Mau&Val!

It's nice to hear (actually read) you (B&S) again :)

I am currently stucked in... Leeds, UK. YES! I know it's very surprised for you. It's still also surprised for me ;P

The reason of my being here in this shit, is The Wonderful Indian High Comission which kicked me out from the country... The short story is like this:

My Entry Visa expired on 6th June, however I had request an extension on March before I left to UK at first time. On 30th April I was back and almost directly went to FRRO to ask about extension. They were surprised to see me and promised to send all the docs to New Delhi for the extension as Kolkata doesn't have permission for it. They asked me to come back in the middle of July. I came on 17th July and there was not some officer, so they asked to come back after 2 weeks. I came on 30th July and they told me: "You can have only Employee Visa, because you are an employee and for that you need to leave the country" - "What???". I explained to them I AM NOT AN EMPLOYEEEEE!! They understood but forced me to leave the country. I called HR Mumbai in the head office of TCS and they asked me to come to Mumbai and extend Visa there. I came. The lady in Mumbai FRRO told me she cannot extend my visa, because I am registered in Kolkata. Hmmm... I came back to Kolkata FRRO with new docs from TCS. And the officer told me I understand you, you're right, however this is the official document - You have to leave the country before 21st August. TCS bought me a ticket to London to extend visa there and come back Kolkata. I left India on 19th August. And in Indian Embassy in London they told me: We cannot extend your visa, because you are not a UK resident. Go to your country. And then TCS took me for 7 long boring weeks to Leeds. I am giving here a KT (knowledge transfer) to one guy who will replace me in the project. On 6th October I will be released from the project and then go to Poland to take this fucking visa and finally and hopefully go back home. Unless TCS will send me somewhere else - I hope Asia or Africa.

Btw in meantime in London I became TCS Kolkata employee with almost three times bigger salary :)

That's the my story.

Alumalachen (or sth like this) & Kelindoa,
Konrad
